Haunted Airman Review

I thought it would be interesting to write a review on The Haunted Airman from a Pattinson fans perspective, since the critics keep getting it wrong. First, I should say SPOILERS for anyone who hasn't seen it yet and shame on you! I should also say that I have not read the book on which this movie was based. My opinions are based solely on what I have seen in the movie...um...seven times. Don't you judge me!

The Haunted Airman is about a pilot (imagine that!), Toby Jugg whose plane is shot down during war. He is taken to a quiet, private hospital by his aunt; his only living relative since he was very young. The story is told in a Hitchcock style, leaving it up to the viewer to decide what is really going on. Is the hospital haunted? Is the doctor evil? Is Toby delusional? This movie could be interpreted in many ways and I would love to hear what you guys thought of it. It is not a movie that everyone will enjoy.

I'll go first because I'm pushy that way.

1. Did you like the movie?

Yes, I enjoyed the movie very much. *snort* I guess so since I've watched it seven times! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. It's a mindfuck, it has a nervous energy about it that sucked me in (that's what she said). It is also sad and shows a terrible time in existance and the horrible people who prey upon the impaired. My stomache was in knots the entire time I watched it. I found myself very mistrustful of all the characters and the suspense builds all the way to the what the fuck ending.

2. In your opinion, what happened?

In my opinion, Toby's aunt was a sick bitch who took advantage of her nephew. In a warped way of the young and broken, Toby loves her and is unwilling to show any signs of weakness, trying to prove himself a man for her. The doctor is a selfish, greedy, arrogant bastard. Yeah, don't like the doctor or the aunt so much. Toby has held in his feelings for so long. The loss of his parents, his feelings of abandonment, the things he saw in war and Toby's mind has snapped. When Dr. Freaky gives Toby the knife and tells him that he trusts him to do the right thing. I think that the doctor had every reason to believe that Toby would kill himself, but Toby knew who had fucked up his life. I am not condoning his behavior, just saying that I felt for him and I understood why he did what he did. He never got a childhood, never felt any comfort, and she stole his last piece of innocence and he lived in constant fear of her taking away the only love he had ever been shown. In summation, the bitch hurt my baby, so death to the bitch!

3. Thoughts on Rob's performance

The depth of pain and sadness that he conveys effortlessly is astounding. I think it's important to remember that he is only 19 years old here and I don't know about you guys, but I had the attention span of a gnat at 19. There is no way I could have pulled off this level of emotion at that age. He obviously goes to a very dark place for this role. I was completely swept away by the character and forgot about Rob. He becomes Toby, so much so, that even now when I see photos of the movie. I think of Toby, not Rob. I'm no rocket scientist, but I'm relatively sure that this is what qualifies a person as a talented actor. I am blown away by the way his body language and facial expressions change. There is still some trademark Pattinson fuckhawtness. For instance, cigarette smoking, licking of the lips, and that cute humming noise he makes when he's pondering how to answer a question.
*claps* Bravo!
