Kevin Federline feared for his sons' safety when his ex-wife Britney Spears went into a meltdown this year. The toxic singer was hospitalized for psychiatric assessment last January after she reportedly refused to hand over her children following a supervised visit. Spears was in the middle of a bitter custody battle with Federline at the time of the incident, and he confesses he was worried about his children when she hit her "lowest points."He tells Hello! magazine, "Yes, I was a bit concerned. In my heart, I never felt she'd ever do anything wrong to the children. But some of her lowest points were my lowest points, too. It has been tough for me to go through all this at the same time." Describing the moment he saw Spears being carried away on a stretcher, Federline adds: "That's one of my lowest points right there. It was stressful. But we're all through it now."And Federline is convinced his and Britney's problems were made even worse because their marriage was in the public eye. He says, "It's tough. It definitely doesn't make it any easier. But when we were together, we had each other to rely on. And we had lots of moments together that ... well, people don't know what goes on behind closed doors. We had a bit of private life." Halperin spent 18 months as an undercover paparazzi getting close to the pop singing star and her inner circle of managers and friends, and now plans to release a book full of all the information. In his forthcoming book Stalking Britney: Under Siege with Britney Spears, he attacks Lynne - who recently defended herself against accusations of being a pushy stage mother in her own book about her life raising Britney, entitled Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World. Halperin says, "Lynne is a spin doctor and a borderline manic-depressive. She wants to come across as very innocent, but she only rushed to Britney’s side when Britney had her emotional breakdown because there was a big rush for Britney’s fortune. "It’s ridiculous that she says she didn’t push both these kids into show business. (The parents) thought she would be a cash cow to set them up for their future." Toxic Britney Spears will remain under the conservatorship of her dad Jamie until the end of this year, a California court ha s ruled.The singer was placed in her father’s care last February, following her hospitalization in January for an alleged bipolar disorder. According to the new court ruling, Spears’ estate and finances will remain under Jamie’s control until December 31st. Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz confirmed after todays hearing: "Ms. Spears is reluctantly agreeing to extend the temporary (conservatorship)." Britney has enjoyed a string of personal successes since her father was awarded control over his troubled daughter’s estate - including extended access to her sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline, Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, 17 months. Federline’s attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan has also praised Jamie’s involvement in the case, insisting the reunion "couldn’t have happened without" his assistance. Kaplan added of his positive influence on the singer: "We’re just very positive about it. Having her dad stabilizing everything is a good thing."
